My Mom uses dental floss (unused, okay) on darning and hemming jobs on bedsheets, pillowcases, bags and on other things that undergo more wear and need a stronger alternative to ordinary sewing thread.
So when one of the stitches on my umbrella failed, the one that connects the umbrella fabric to the ends of the wire frames, I took out a needle and some dental floss to reattach the umbrella fabric. Voila! The umbrella's back in business.
I also used dental floss to fix the popped stitches on my husband's leather cellphone case, which he attaches to his belt. So that saved us a little more than a hundred pesos. (A little more than 2 US$.) :-)
